Teen Grid

Welcome to the new blog I have started to document the progress on the British Council Isle Second Life Teen Grid project.

The shot above was taken a few weeks ago, a couple of days after our developers, Kim & the Magicians started work on our first island.

Since then, we’ve already been mentioned in the press, and our presence has been noted by the people over at the fabulous Global Kids project, which is the longest running Second Life Teen Grid project.

Graham, Welcome to the teen grid. Thanks for sharing about your project on the GK blog. If Global Kids can help at all, please let us know. We have a listserv exclusively for owners of public islands in the teen grid. If you would like to join, please let us know; we are sort of a professional advocacy group.

    Hi Graham

It would be great to hear your plans… when you’re ready to reveal!

I’m researching setting up a Virtual Youth Centre for a region of South West England. Can I ask how you’re planning to manage your island? Will your islands be open 24/7? Do you think it’s necessary to have someone keeping an eye on what’s going on outside of formal classes?

Thanks Barry – I really appreciate your offer of help, and the voice of experience. I think I’d definitely like to join your listserv, and I’m sure we’ll have lots of questions about how best to organise ourselves, etc.

Stuart, this sounds like a very interesting project. We are planning on having our island open 24/7, especially as the British Council has centres all over the world, in all different time zones. Monitoring what goes on in the island is something we are discussing at the moment. I’ll keep you posted.
